Günther Hassler

Günther Hassler, born in 1959, graduated at the university in Vienna in social sciences and economics. Before joining Neusiedler AG (now MONDI BUSINESS PAPER) in 1988, Günther Hassler worked for 4 years with an international accounting and consulting company in Austria and Germany.
Within MONDI BUSINESS PAPER he started his career in Finance and Controlling and advanced to the Chief Executive Officer in 2002. In addition to this role within MONDI BUSINESS PAPER he also held Management Board positions in the Pöls AG pulp mill for 2 years and in Frantschach AG for 5 years.
Besides his professional career Günther Hassler finished an Executive MBA course at the Donauuniversität Krems, Austria.

Petter Eilertsen

Petter Eilertsen is a Partner and Director of The Boston Consulting Group (BCG), based in their Oslo office. Since joining BCG in 1994, he has worked within a range of industries with an broad set of issues ranging from corporate strategy to plant improvement programs. His main focus is within process industries including paper. In 1996 he was part of the small team that opened up BCG Oslo office and he has spent the last 10 years building this into a stronghold in the Nordics with more than 50 employees. Petter is the co-author of a BCG report about to be published around May 2007, The outlook for Paper. The report takes a look at future demand for publication paper in light of substitution electronic media. It investigates changing consumer behaviours, advertisers´ reactions, publishers strategies as well as technology trends, and based on this research it attempts to model the direction of paper demand globally.

Robert Horne Group

Bob is Commercial Director for the Robert Horne Group, one of Britain´s largest paper merchant wholesalers, supplying the print, graphic and office markets. Robert Horne is part of PaperlinX, the world´s largest multi-continent merchanting group. He has more than 25 years of marketing and commercial practice in both paper manufacture, converting and paper merchanting, first with Wiggins Teape in the UK and Germany, culminating in managing the Conqueror brand world-wide in the late 1980s. This was followed by a move to luxury paper converter Svecia Antiqua. In 1992 Bob joined Robert Horne to establish its Business Papers Division. In the mid-1990s he took on the responsibility for the Group´s Strategic Marketing, balancing Robert Horne´s complex business needs across many market sectors.

Andy Chen

Based in London, Andy Chen is the digital media strategy director at Isobar /Carat Global Management, which handles global media for Philips, Renault, Adidas, and various others. Prior to Carat, Andy worked for Tonic360 (later acquired by JWT), a leading digital branding agency during the dotcom era, Universal Studios and McCann-Erickson in San Francisco.
A true advocate for global integration and strategy, Andy has lived and worked in Copenhagen and Stockholm, where he was a management module speaker for the Swedish Advertising Association. He has an undergraduate degree from University of California, Berkeley; and a MBA in international marketing and management from Stockholm University, School of Business.
Named one of the 20 Rising Media Stars to Watch in 2004 by Media Magazine in the US, Andy is a frequent international conference speaker on digital media. Andy writes a media strategy column for ClickZ, the largest online magazine for the interactive marketing industry and he published his first collaborative book, The Changing Communication Paradigm, in November 2005 with Arvinius Publishing in Sweden.

Strategies for Media in Transition

Ewald Wessling is an experienced manager in the publishing industry and since 2004 he is focussing his work on the digital transition of media. As a consultant for mainly publishing companies he is in search for business models to transfer the strengths of traditional media into the emerging digital markets, e.g. for the CEO of Gruner + Jahr in 2005/06.
Previously to working as a consultant, Mr. Wessling was in charge of magazines like TV Today, Online Today, Gala, Financial Times Deutschland, National Geographic Deutschland, Max, or Lufthansa Magazine. Mr. Wessling studied Economics, Philosophy, and Communication Sciences in Münster and graduated several programs at Harvard Business School and Stanford Business School. He holds a diploma and a doctor´s degree in Economics and is teaching at universities in Hamburg and at the SRH University Calw, where he will be appointed to a professorship in May 2007. That way he keeps in touch with the Digital Natives who are growing up with the mouse in their hands.
Mr. Wessling is located in Hamburg and happily married. He relaxes with his children and enjoys playing Golf on the course or on his Wii.

Anders is the Head of Sales for Aftonbladet New Media, owned by the Schibsted Group. Aftonbladet is the largest daily newspaper in Scandinavia. The mediahouse also includes Aftonbladet.se, the leading mediasite with 1,7 million unique visitors per day, a TV-channel and a free daily newspaper.
Before Aftonbladet, Anders worked for International Data Group, the largest IT publisher in the world. Anders has a lot of experience in the Online Industry and companies with both print- and online products.

Friedrich Huber

Friedrich Huber was born in 1960 and holds a diploma and a doctor´s degree in Computer Science from Graz University of Technology (TU Graz). After working for several years at TU Graz and the University of Calgary, Canada, he joined Accenture in 1990. He became Partner in 2000, and is responsible for the Forest Products Industry in Austria, Switzerland and Germany. He has led numerous business consulting projects as well as system integration projects over the last years, covering supply chain (planning, procurement), re-organisation (post merger integration, restructuring) and cost reduction for paper mills. His system integration projects have covered topics such as SAP, enterprise application integration and customized developments.
In his rare spare time he enjoys being with his family - two demanding young boys - and spends hours cycling, including road races and crossing the Alps on mountain bike

Bert Driessen

Bert Driessen is Managing Director of VistaPrint B.V. (Venlo, NL). Previously he fulfilled various positions in different sectors. After obtaining a Masters Degree in Engineering at Eindhoven Technology University he started at Océ Technologies. He then moved to the automotive industry as project manager Diesel engines at DAF Trucks. Afterwards he joined the semiconductor equipment industry at ASM-Lithography and held several senior management positions in R&D and Operations. Subsequently he became division director at Sulzer-Eldim, manufacturer of aircraft engine components, utilizing world class manufacturing principles.
His current employer - VistaPrint - is a highly successful e-commerce company, revolutionizing the (ultra)short-run full-colour print industry, growing roughly 70% annually. Proprietary software solutions and total vertical integration of all processes (from marketing to printing) are key elements of this success. High automation levels, standardization and ruthless dedication to world class manufacturing principles boost profitability. VistaPrint went public on Nasdaq in 2005, has HQ in Lexington (MA, USA), two production facilities in Holland and Canada plus a call center in Jamaica.
Mr. Driessen was born in 1957, is married and considers his main areas of expertise to be: building efficient organizational structures, deploying world class manufacturing practices as well as harnessing advanced technologies.

Prof. Piet Bakker

Dr. Piet Bakker, born in 1953, studied Political Science at the University of Amsterdam. He worked as a journalist for several newspapers, magazines and radio stations and was a teacher at the School for Journalism in Utrecht. He also organized workshops for newspapers publishers, gave lectures and works as a consultant on newspaper innovation. Since 1985 he works at the Department of Communications at the University of Amsterdam / Amsterdam School of Communications Research (ASCoR) as an associate professor. He edited and published books and articles on reading habits, media history, local journalism, internet, Dutch media, international news, investigative journalism, the music industry and free newspapers. He teaches mass communication and journalism at undergraduate and MA-level.

Hans Sohlström

Hans Mikael Sohlström was born in Finland in 1964. In 1989 he obtained the Master of Science (technology), Corporate Strategy and International Marketing as well as Paper Technology from Helsinki University of Technology and the Master of Science (economics), Corporate Finance and Business Administration from the Swedish School of Economics and Business Administration.
Hans started his career as Business Developer at Kymmene, Kymi Division as early as in 1988 and since then he held various positions in several companies that today are all part of the UPM-Kymmene Corporation (Marketing Assistant at Finnpap´s Newsprint Division; Marketing Manager United Paper Mills, Stracel France; Mill Director of UPM´s Jämsänkoski’s MFC and SC-Mills; Vice President, Printers & Brokers Segment, UPM Publication Papers and Vice President, Marketing of UPM Publication Papers). In 2002, Mr Sohlström was appointed Senior Vice President, Sales & Marketing of the UPM Magazine Paper Division. He has been holding his current position as Executive Vice President, Marketing of UPM since 2004.

Robert Wilson holds a Masters degree in Business and Forest Management from Oregon State University, as well as a BSc (Forestry) Hons. from the Australian National University. Robert started his career in 1973 as Operations Manager at Associated Pulp and Paper Mills, Australia in Papua New Guinea. In 1981, he joined Sandwell Consulting, Canada, as Senior Consultant and two years later he joined Shell International Petroleum Company as Project Manager in the Non-Traditional Business Division.
He returned to the paper world in 1988 at Arjo Wiggins Appleton, with assignments in the UK, Spain and France as Group Business Development Manager and Commercial and Forestry Director. In 1997, he became President of Jaakko Pöyry Management Consulting in the U.K. and is now Chairman of Pöyry Forest Industry Consulting Ltd.

Mr Boltho was educated in Italy and at the Universities of London (LSE), Paris and Oxford. From 1966 to 1977 he worked at the OECD’s Department of Economics and Statistics where he was, inter alia, Head of the Growth Studies Division and Editor of the Economic Outlook. For one year (1973-74), he was a Japan Foundation Fellow at the Research Institute of the Economic Planning Agency in Tokyo. Since 1977, he has been a Fellow and Tutor at Magdalen College, University of Oxford, where he specializes in international and applied macroeconomic issues.
At various stages, he was active as a consultant to the World Bank, the OECD and member of the Academic Council of the IFO Institute, Munich, as well as Visiting Professor at the Collège d´Europe, Bruges; at the International University of Japan; at the Bologna Center of the Johns Hopkins University; at INSEAD; and at the Universities of Venice, Torino, Paris and Siena.
He has lectured on world and European economic developments to various private sector organizations and corporations, including ABB, ABN Amro, Anglo-American, Arthur Andersen, FIAT, Generali, Ericsson, Hoechst, IBM, KPMG, Siemens, Stora Enso, etc.
His publications include: Foreign Trade Criteria in Socialist Economies, Cambridge 1971; Japan - An Economic Survey, Oxford 1975; The European Economy: Growth and Crisis, Oxford 1982; as well as numerous academic articles. He has recently edited a volume comparing the Italian and Japanese economies since the war.

After university and 2 years military service, Mark spent 8 years marketing and selling plastic baby products in an FMCG environment.
He moved into the paper business with Mondi Paper in South Africa 10 years ago, starting in product management and then moving into various marketing and sales management positions.
The opportunity to take on the role of Marketing Director for the group resulted in a move to Austria in 2004. In this position he oversaw the re-branding of Neusiedler to Mondi Business Paper.
At the end of 2005, he moved across from marketing to take up his current position as Sales Director.
Mark studied Business Economics and Law at university and has completed a Senior Executive Programme at Harvard Business School. He is married to Kelly and they have 8 year old twins, Adam and Caitlin.

Sunil Sood has over 20 years experience in the Pulp and Paper industry. He started his career in India with M/S Ballarpur Industries in 1981. He joined Asia Pulp and Paper in 1988 and managed various senior marketing and business development functions till 2003. Since late 2004, he is leading the Paper business for April in Sales and Marketing. April has successfully now launched their PM2 in late 2006 and successfully integrated the Rizhao Pulp and Folding Box Board mill in China.
He has wide experience setting up sales through channels in Asia, Middle East, Australia, Europe and USA. He is well known in the paper industry circles and has been a speaker in many forums on subjects related to the paper business.

Tom joined Hawkins Wright in 1998. He is involved in all multi-client and single-client consultancy assignments undertaken by Hawkins Wright. He is the principal author of the annual report Defining the China Market for Pulp Paper & Board and as a result continues to travel widely in east Asia. He is co-author of the tri-annual Outlook for market pulp report, and writes regularly for the monthly newsletter Pulpwatch. He has recently joined the Foex expert panel.
Tom has a Bsc Hons degree from Newcastle University in Economics and Spanish. Prior to joining Hawkins Wright Tom worked for an accountancy firm in the city of London.
He is married with a young daughter and lives in west London.

Martin is a leading market consultant in the paper industry, specialising in coated, uncoated and new-print paper markets and is head of the market consulting firm EMGE & Co. Martin worked for over ten years with English China Clays between 1977 and 1988, in the Corporate Planning and Market Planning Departments. At ECC, Martin was in charge of the Group´s planning activities in the paper industry, which included strategy, market research and the competitor database. In 1988, he left ECC to join the consulting firm Hawkins Wright as Senior Partner. In 1994 he formed his own consulting company based in Cornwall. He has a Masters degree (M.Sc.) in Operational Research from the University of Birmingham and a Bachelor of Science degree (B.Sc. Hons) from Southampton University, U.K.

Robert is responsible for developing long term product strategies for prepress, press, and postpress equipment working closely with Product Management, Research and Development, and key customers, worldwide. Prior to this role, he was responsible for company strategy at Heidelberg, assessing potential growth opportunities both within the Print Media Industry and beyond.
Robert received a bachelor´s degree in Mechanical Engineering at Princeton University in 1983, and then worked as a development engineer for five years in the electronics industry prior to returning to school to complete his MBA at the MIT Sloan School of Management in 1991. Following business school, he joined the international management and consulting company, Arthur D. Little, Inc. (ADL), located in Cambridge, Massachusetts where he helped build the technology and innovation management practice which focused on helping clients align their company and R&D strategies to goals for growth through innovation. After a two year international assignment with ADL in Wiesbaden, Germany, he went back into industry, joining Heidelberg in 2000.
He is married and has a young (and adorable) daughter.
